MaMA IS WELCOMING THE "FOCUS ON POPULAR MUSIC"

MaMA IS WELCOMING THE "FOCUS ON POPULAR MUSIC"

As previously organised in the field of other performing arts (dance, theatre circus and street arts), the Institut Français and its partners, MaMA and Bureau Export , will organise the first Focus dedicated to popular music. This project is also supported by French cultural network abroad (Embassies, Instituts français, Alliances françaises) for the invitation of music professionals from various countries.

This Focus aims to promote the French music scene to around 50 invited professionals (festival artistic directors, booking agents, label representatives, live music producers etc). Its goal is to foster professional exchanges and collaborations, and facilitate French artists' development internationally. The Focus will introduce to foreign professionals a series of concerts, conferences, workshops, speedmeeting sessions, selected in MaMA programme. Priority will be given to emerging artists in various styles promoted by MaMA.

This project is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Communication and SACEM.

This Focus will also include a new edition of "Equation Musique", a programme promoting professionals and artists from South (Africa, Caribbean), implemented in partnership with l'Organisation international de la Francophonie (OIF). "Equation musique" will invite around 10 professionals (producers, distributors, promoters) from Africa to meet with their French and international counterparts. 3 artists produced in Africa will also be presented in MaMA line up: Just A Band (Kenya), Faada Freddy (Senegal) and Jeremy Loops (South Africa).

In addition, a specific perspective on the South African music industry will be included in this focus as part of the South Africa-France Seasons 2012 & 2013  (www.france-southafrica.com). A delegation of South African professionals will attend the MaMa Festival. This delegation will take part in a workshop dealing with the stakeholders and features of the South African market.

Around 20 professionals from the French cultural network abroad will also be participating in MaMA this year.

YOUROPE PARTNER WITH MaMA

YOUROPE PARTNER WITH MaMA

YOUROPE Association is pleased to collaborate with MaMA and to pool its expertise and network to present, each year, co-organized debates and contents that allow MaMA participants to stay aware fo the core issues and actuality of european festivals. This year, MaMA will receive a lot of festivals thanks to this partnership (Melt !, Sziget, StGallen, Primavera,…).

YOUROPE, European Festivals Association, gathers more than 80 festivals ( Roskilde, Sziget, Montreux, Exit, Oya, Primavera, Paleo, Rock Werchter, Pinkpop, Melt!, Wacken, Rock en Seine, Le Printemps de Bourges, Les Transmusicales…) from about thirty different countries.
Founded in 1998, its role is to structure a strong network that enable its members to work all together to improve quality on their events as far as security, environment, working conditions,... are concerned, and also to share experiences, information, and to promote the international movement of artists.

Thus, YOUROPE leads very active working groups, meeting several times a year and organizing seminars:
•    The YES Group ( Yourope Event Safety Group ), gathering expert progessionals and providing training to security managers on festivals,
•    The GO Group ( Green Operations Europe ), composed of several associations working on sustainable development and environmental issues. Yourope created in 2006 the " Green'n'Clean" label, rewarding festivals showing exemplary environmental policies.

Yourope has elaborated and developped - in collaboration with Eurosonic Noordeslag, Groningen- since 2003 the ETEP (European Talent Exchange Program - supported by European Commission) in Europe, whose aim is stimulating the European circulation of artists. Each year, this program allows several dozens of them to hit the stage of the main European festivals. Yourope is also at the root of, since 2009 and thanks to a collaboration with Eurosonic Noordeslag (and Virtual Festivals website), the "European Festival Awards" that rewards the best European festivals (with 13 different nominations).

Yourope, in partnership with international jurists, also works on legal subjects, in particular regarding the TV/internet/radio rights, coyprights, taxes, sponsorship, and has just written its own contract model for artists, usable by all its members.
